WARNING: NON-HORROR POST INCOMING
I’ve been rewatching Gilmore Girls lately–something it strikes me to do every autumn and I don’t end up doing. There’s just too much media to dedicate myself to a 7-season show (and questionable revival series) once a year. Let’s conveniently ignore how many times I’ve seen seasons 1-14 of SVU. But this was the right year for it; the weather took a while to get going but now we’re in full autumnal days–chilly hoodie mornings leading into t-shirt afternoons and cozy pajama evenings. It’s also comfort season and Stars Hollow, well, if you know, you know.

It’s not just that Gilmore Girls has high-key fall-vibes and fall is objectively the superior season (miss me, Christmas freaks and pool geeks), it’s that Rory Gilmore is one of the best bookworms TV has ever given us. I was aware that, over the years, several people had scoured each episode to track every book that shows up in the series. What I didn’t realize was how many books that ended up being. Imagine me this morning–cup of coffee, brand new book blog/bookstagram, deep into season 4, thinking “Yes, the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge. After October, this will be my plan.” So then imagine me looking up the list and seeing more than 400 books on it. To finish out this exercise, imagine that for one moment I considered taking on the challenge and was then promptly attacked by a waist-tall TBR pile.
So, the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge is not happening for me any time soon. I did take a quick look to see how many of the 408 I’ve already read. Sixty-eight! Let’s see…68 divided by 408 is…not an amazing showing. If you’re interested in seeing how you stack up, or want to consider taking on this challenge yourself, the most complete list I found was on Jules Buono’s blog (https://www.julesbuono.com/rory-gilmore-book-list/)
Life’s too short to read things you don’t like. Go crunch some leaves and drink something tasty. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere well, go pick a pretty flower.
